Udupi, Dec 2: District Crime Intelligence Bureau (DCIB), police of the district have arrested Narasimharaju alias Raju 941), a resident of Doddaballapur, who has allegedly stolen items from various temples in the districts of Udupi and Dakshina Kannada.

Raju is arrested in connection with the thefts that have occurred in Brahmavar Kilinje Sri Mahavishnu, Sri Mahalingeshwara temple, Karkala Ninjoor Guru Nityananda Bhajana Mandir, Shivapur Brahmabaidarkala Garodi and Karkala Ennehole Sri Ganesh Mandir.

Police have confiscated goods worth Rs 2.7 lac including 7 kg of silver from the accused. Raju is accused in the thefts at Bengaluru rural and Tumakuru earlier. In addition, he has stolen things from four temples in the district of Udupi and ten temples in the district of Dakshina Kannada. A warrant was issued in his name for not attending the court in 14 cases.

Raju was arrested on Novermber 28 at Doddaballapur by DCIB police inspector Sampat Kumar and personnel in an operation that was conducted under the guidance of T R Jaishankar, DySP of Udupi sub division police and Kumar Chandra, additional SP. The direction for the police action was given by Laxman Nimbargi, SP of the district. The confiscated goods are handed over to the Brahmavar police station.
