Puttur: Gas leak after tanker topples, nearby people alerted not to use fire

Puttur, Dec 2: A gas tanker got toppled as it went out of control of the driver at Uppinangady near here. As the gas got leaked in the process, the traffic on the Mangaluru - Bengaluru national highway is stalled.

The gas tanker which belonged to the Bharat Gas organization was plying from Mangaluru to Bengaluru. While negotiating the road bend at Bedrodi of Uppinangady on the morning of Sunday, Dec 2, it went out of control of the driver and fell on its side. Because of the impact of its fall huge amount of gas is getting leaked from the tanker.

Police and fire service personnel who rushed to the spot as soon as they came to know about the incident are involved in the rescue operation. As a precaution, people in and around 2 km area of the accident zone are advised not to use any naked light or make the fire.

It may be recalled that on April 9, 2013, 13 people had died as a gas tanker got toppled and immediately caught fire, which spread to the near by houses and vehicles.
