Udupi: Senior citizen on morning walk abducted, robbed

Udupi, Dec 3: A senior citizen who was on his morning walk on Sunday December 2 was kidnapped, robbed of cash and gold ornaments, and dropped off by a gang of robbers.

The incident happened near Sudha Furniture at Lakshmindra Nagara in Manipal.

Vijay Kumar A S (65), a resident of Laxmindra Nagara in Manipal had started his morning walk at 4 am on Sunday. He had walked till MGM College and was returning to his home. When he reached near Sudha Furniture at Lakshmindra Nagara, a Maruti Omni van approached him.

A person seated inside the van instantly pulled Vijay Kumar into the van, it is said. Six others who were inside the van applied tapes to Vijay Kumar's eyes, mouth and hands. They took away Rs 120 found in his trousers pocket and two rings valued at around Rs 50,000 he was wearing.

The kidnappers dropped off Vijay Kumar at Kinnimulki on Mangaluru road before fleeing.

A case relating to this incident was registered in Manipal police station.
