Gandhinagar, Dec 4 (IANS): Officials of the Anti-Terror Squad (ATS) and the Gujarat Crime Branch on Monday joined hands with the CID (Crime) to investigate the answer-key leak of the Lok Rakshak Dal (LDR) examinations that broke out on Sunday and four persons were arrested late last night.
Virendra Yaadav, the Superintendent of Police of the CID (Crime) in Gandhinagar, registered a complaint with the police in the answer key paper leak, postponing the exams which were to be held on Sunday.
The examinations were scheduled on Sunday for 9,713 posts of fixed pay constables, LDR, and 8,76,356 candidates were to appear for the exams, coming from not only across the state but also from outside.
Moments ahead of the exams, the police postponed it after getting wind of the answer key paper leak. Vikas Sahay, the additional DGP of Police Recruitment Board, who had himself prepared the question paper, declared the exams cancelled.
Police have arrested four persons in the case, including Yashpal Solanki, believed to be the kingpin of the racket, Police Inspector PV Patel of Gandhinagar Wireless control, one Manhar Patel of Arjanvav of Bayad Taluka (Block) from BJP, a BJP taluka panchayat member Mukesh Chaudhari and a woman Rupal Sharma, an examinee.
According to the police complaint, Rupal, a rector of Shree Ram hostel, was known to Bharat Borana, Wireles Police Sub Inspector (PSI) of the Police Recruitment Board (PRB). When she got the leaked answer keys, she wanted to confirm with Borana if it was genuine or not. An alerted Borana denied to Rupal and immediately informed Vikas Sahay, the chairman PRB.
The leak has also created a huge controversy as an accused, Mukesh Chaudhari, is a Taluka panchayat member from BJP while a BJP worker Manhar Patel tempting the opposition Congress to stage protest rallies across all the six Corporations and all 33 district headquarters in Gujarat. The ruling BJP subsequently both from the party.
According to sources, Manhar Paatel is believed to have good connections in the government. While Yashpal Solanki belongs to Lunawada and works in the sanitation division of the Vadodara Municipal Corporation.
The police believe that the answer key paper might have been leaked from its source of getting printed in Gurugram between the point of paper reaching the examination centres. Each staffer in the process is being interrogated. So far 20 persons have been questioned.
