Guwahati, Dec 5 (IANS): The Opposition Congress in Assam has lodged a complaint with the Chief Electoral Officer, Assam alleging violation of model code of conduct by the Prime Minister's Office (PMO).

"Some of the news channels in Assam telecast around 11 a.m today (Wednesday) that the PMO has announced inauguration of the Bogibeel bridge by the Prime Minister. This is a violation when polling in the first phase of panchayat polls was going on in the state," said Ranjan Bora.
This kind of announcement will certainly influence a section of voters as the Bogibeel bridge is an emotional issue in Assam, he said.
"We hope that your office will take necessary action against the PMO," he said in his complaint to the CEO, Assam.
Reacting to this, CEO Harendra Nath Bora admitted that he has received a letter in this regard and added that necessary steps will be taken which deem fit as per the law.
