Rajasthan election: EVM found lying on road, 2 officials suspended

Rajasthan, Dec 8 (IT): An Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) was found lying on a road in Shahabad area of Kishanganj Assembly Constituency in Baran district of Rajasthan on Friday.

After the voting in Rajasthan, the EVM was found lying unclaimed on the highway number 27 near Mugawali village in Baran district. And after the villagers reported about the same, the police took possession of the machine.

A seal on the EVM revealed that the machine was used during the election.

Two officials, Abdul Rafeek and Naval Singh Patwari, have been suspended on the grounds of negligence, according to news agency ANI.

A turnout of 72.7% was recorded in Rajasthan in Friday's polling.

Around 52,000 polling booths, including at least one all-women booth in each constituency, were set up. More than 2 lakh EVMs and Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) machines were used for the polling.

In the 200-member Rajasthan Assembly, over 2,000 candidates are fighting for 199 assembly seats.

Counting of votes for the Rajasthan assembly election will be held on December 11.
