Odisha shelter home: Dharmendra Pradhan seeks Rajnath Singh's intervention

Bhubaneswar, Dec 8 (IANS): Union Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has sought Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh's intervention in the case of the sexual exploitation of minor girl inmates in a shelter home in Dhenkanal district.

In a letter to the Home Minister, released to the media on Saturday, Pradhan requested stern action against the perpetrators.

According to Pradhan, the state government has remained a mute spectator to the blatant violation of the Juvenile Justice Act.

The Minister alleged that NGO Good News India runs an illegal shelter home at Beltikiri in Dhenkanal and is involved in forceful religious conversion and human trafficking.

Pradhan sought Singh's intervention after receiving a petition from BJP Mahila Morcha State president Pravati Parida.

In the petition, Parida alleged that a huge amount of foreign funds are coming to the NGO, which runs 26 shelter homes in Odisha out of which 15 are illegal.
