Mangalore, Dec 10: Residents of Kulshekar to Mallur had to spend sleepless night on Wednesday December 10 as a van carrying milk hit an electric pole near Kulshekar school here on Tuesday December 9.

The van was plying towards KMF diary at Kulshekar from the city. The incident occurred at about 11.45 pm. The impact of the accident was such that, the electricity pole caved in and fell across the national highway 13. Live wires were scattered all along the road posing danger to the passers by. However, the driver of the milk van had a miraculous escape in the incident.

Sources said that a greater danger was averted since electricity supply went off by itself after the incident. Had it not been owing to the automatic stop of electricity, there were likely chances of a bigger tragedy.

Normal traffic was disrupted for some hours owing to the accident. However, timely intervention by MESCOM eased the traffic woes. However, electricity supply has not yet been restored.

The case has been filed against van driver Suresh in Kadri police station for reckless driving.
