Iran's private sector to begin construction projects in Syria


Tehran, Dec 17 (IANS): Iran's private sector will undertake construction projects in Syria, Amir Amini, the Iranian deputy minister of Road and Urban Development was quoted as saying by Tasnim news agency.

He said the administration of President Hassan Rouhani will not assume any role in this regard, Xinhua news agency reported on Sunday.

Iran wants to use the capabilities of its private sector in Syria's market, he said, adding that private companies would get involved in both undertaking projects in Syria and supplying the Arab country with building materials.

The Iranian private sector is also prepared to carry out running water projects there, Amini noted.

Iran has vowed to be actively involved in diverse construction and development projects in Syria in the aftermath of the civil war.

Tehran has appeared as a major regional ally of Damascus in its fight against the rebels over the past years.
