Hassan, Dec 17: Police rescued 52 people who were made to work as slaves in Savantihalli village, Arasikere, Hassan. They were being tortured and were not paid wages for the last three years. The raids were conducted on a tip off from one such victim who escaped from the clutches of his employer and informed the police.

Bangaluru based Krishnegowda owned eight acres land. He had entrusted Murali to look after the fields who had brought workers to work as labourers but used to torture and make them work without paying wages.

Auto driver Naganna and Murali used to bring orphans and destitute found in bus and railway stations, luring them with jobs. Once in his clutch, he used to make people work and deprive them of food and basic facilities. They used to be locked in a small room during nights and were not allowed to maintain communication with outside the world.

Children and adults aged between 3 to 65 from Andhra Pradesh, Raichur, Bagalkote and other places were enslaved here. Police are looking out for Murali who is absconding.
