Explosion at Greek TV station, no casualty

Athens, Dec 17 (IANS): A powerful explosion shattered windows and damaged the premises of a Greek television station early on Monday but left no casualties, police said in a statement.

The blast occurred at Skai TV Headquarters here around 2.35 a.m., which followed two anonymous phone calls that warned that explosions would take place in 45 minutes and it would not be a prank.

Police had evacuated the building and secured the perimeter, Efe news reported.

Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras issued a statement describing the incident as "a cowardly attack" against democracy, and vowed that its perpetrators "will not achieve their objective."

Security cameras detected two individuals arriving at the premises, leaving a backpack in front of the building and fleeing on a motorcycle, Police chief Aristides Andrikopulos said, adding there was no evidence pointing to any specific group.
