One dead in Bathinda factory blast, probe ordered


Chandigarh, Dec 19 (IANS): Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh on Wednesday ordered a detailed inquiry to ascertain the cause of the blast that took place in a matchstick manufacturing factory in Bathinda that left one labourer dead and another critically injured.

The blast took place earlier on Wednesday in the factory located in the Industrial Growth Centre at Mansa Road, Bathinda.

The Chief Minister also announced an ex-gratia of Rs. 3 lakh for the next of the kin of the deceased, identified as Harish Kumar, a junk dealer, and Rs 50,000 for the injured, a Punjab government spokesman said here.

In his directive, the Chief Minister asked the Bathinda deputy commissioner to ensure a thorough probe to ascertain the cause of the explosion and suggest remedial measures to prevent the recurrence of such incidents in the future.

The probe has been entrusted to the Bathinda Additional District Magistrate.
