Protest in AMU over firing in Kashmir

Lucknow, Dec 19 (IANS): Students of the Aligarh Muslim University took out a peace march on the varsity campus on Wednesday to condemn the killing of seven persons on December 15 in Kashmir.

The students affiliated to the AMU Students Union carried placards condemning the army action against stone pelters and said they stood in solidarity with those killed in Kashmir.

They later submitted a memorandum addressed to President Ram Nath Kovind to a senior district official wherein they demanded that human rights violation be stopped in the valley.

Student leaders said that the firing had not only violated human rights blatantly but had also angered the common people of Kashmir.

If the protestors were to be stopped water canons, pellet guns or tear gas could have been used but the defence personnel opened fire, the demonstrating students said.
