Karkala: Bandh call against Belman tollgate gets wholehearted response

The bandh call given by the committee fighting against the installation of a tollgate at Belman for Karkala - Padubidri state highway today has received tremendous response.

Buses are off the roads, and shops, establishments, banks, educational institutions etc have voluntarily downed their shutters.

Inaugurating the protest Kemar Swamiji said, "I am with the people of Belman. I will not rethink about my participation in this protest. It is the fight against injustice. We are not afraid of cases filed against us or any other legal actions. We are fighting against exploitation and one side rule over the villagers who live around Karkala - Padubidri highway. Toll at Belman Toll plaza is equal to looting the people. I am with the people irrespective of their religion and political affinity. "

Addressing the protesters Suhas Hegde said, "We are ready to sacrifice anything but we will not allow collecting toll at Belman Toll plaza. Thousands of villagers too have decided not pay. We obey the rules of law of our country and we are protesting seeking justice. It is our request to the authorities to consider our demand and close the toll plaza immediately.

Thousands of locals took part in the protest.

The committee had asked people and institutions having business establishments or other concerns on the state highway between Padubidri and Karkala to down their shutters today. The committee is hell bent against the toll plaza construction at Belman, saying that most of the poeple using this road are poor and toll charges would be a burden for them.

Preliminary meeting

Relating to the above bandh, preliminary meeting was held at Belman bus stand on Wednesday. Suhas Hegde Nandalike, president of action committee against the tollgate, said that the committee expects that all the shops and establishments on the said state highway would remain voluntarily closed on Thursday, and all the vehicles including buses, trucks, cars and auto rickshaws would remain off the road. He also said that over 10,000 people are likely to participate in the protest meeting.

Hegde expressed the determination not to allow tollgate construction on this road. He said that a protest processions would be taken out at 9 am, followed by mega protest meeting at the bus stand.

Committee office bearers Shashidhar Shetty, Sarvajna Tantry, and others were present in the press meet.

Construction of roads to every village is the duty of the government. Vehicle owners pay road tax and now the common man should pay toll tax...... then where is the road tax money has gone????

This is first toll gate going to be in Entire Karnataka state highway!! Good going ….locals at and around Bellman! Strength of unity by villagers and common people! At any cost should not be allowed....!! I guess it was initiated by Yeddy govt, later supported by Congress and now coalition govt!! All are partners in crime as far as burden of Toll is concerned around Belman!! Let Belman/ Udupi be first in protesting this day light robbery!!

Belman seems to have taken a leaf by the achievement of the MNS party (Raj Thackeray) who sometime back had too resorted to breaking down most of the toll gates in Bombay, Thane and neighbouring Poona for accumulating TOO MUCH of toll money despite it having achieved its target.

The immediate impact --- it was free-for-all show. It had a catastrophic effect with no income generated at all the toll gates.

    This is called a revolution.

Others may also join hands in-the-near-future.

Good to see non political movement against injustice to common man and poor. All previous and current government is responsible for keeping toll gate a secret! Reason behind is known to all!! This toll is a back door entry!!
If the protest is too big....they will exempt the local registered vehicles and after few months no exception to any....except for politicians and babus!! Same thing happened to NH66 Toll and it is a ploy and clever game!! In this toll gate I guess majority vehicles are local ones.

    Mr Sahil,

If you don't know the funda of demonetization read here
    1) Demonetization made all unrecorded money just as a simple peace of paper( I believe neither you or me hoarded any unrecorded money in our custody hence not effected us means normal public)
2)It made fake note printers a jobless one.
    3) Mainly Pakisthan became pauper due to this act of demonetization,it given big blow to their attempt of fake note circulation in India.
    4) Demonetization made less money flow during the election time,it mainly used for influence poor voters.
    5) It made influenced much for cash less transactions.
There are lot to draft but i believe narrated points are enough to understand the motive behind this demonetization
    Jai Hind.

Inside circles say that Rs. 2,000 notes are still being printed and sneaking in from across the border (you know who, our non-cooperative neighbour) into our country. Why not being tackled?.
