Noted Tamil writer Prabhanjan dead


Chennai, Dec 21 (IANS): Tamil writer and Sahitya Akademi Award winner Prabhanjan died in Puducherry on Friday. He was 83.

Born in Puducherry, Prabhanjan (given name S.Vaidyalingam) was suffering from cancer.

He began his career as a Tamil teacher in Thanjavur in Tamil Nadu.

His historical novel 'Vaanam Vasapadum' was awarded the prestigious Sahitya Akademi Award in 1995.

DMK president M.K. Stalin in his condolence message said in the death of Prabhanjan, Tamil literary world has suffered a great loss.

Stalin said Prabhanjan was friendly towards the Dravidian movement.

In his condolence message, PMK Founder S. Ramadoss said Prabhanjan stamped his mark in the Tamil literary world with his unique style.

Ramadoss said Prabhanjan made important contributions to the country and also formulated plans for Makkal TV, a Tamil satellite channel.
