Army officer killed, another injured in Pakistan ceasefire violation in J&K; India retaliates


Srinagar, Dec 21 (IANS): An Indian army officer was killed and another critically injured on Friday in an unprovoked ceasefire violation by Pakistan on the line of control (LoC) in Kupwara district of Kashmir.

Defence sources said Pakistan army resorted to ceasefire violation on Friday afternoon in Jumgund area of the LoC in Kupwara district.

"They used small arms and automatics to target our forward positions.

"Two junior commissioned officers (JCOs) were injured in sniper fire from Pakistan side.

"The injured officers were shifted to army's Drugmulla hospital where one JCO, Subedar Gamar Thapa, succumbed to injuries.

"The other injured JCO, Subedar, Raman Thapa, was later shifted to army's base hospital in Srinagar for specialised treatment", sources said, adding that the Indian forces retaliated strongly.
