Udupi, Dec 28: “Alupotsava programme in Barkur will be held from January 25 to 27, 2019,” said Women’s and Children’s Welfare and Udupi district in charge minister Dr Jayamala. She was speaking after presiding over the preparatory meeting held in this connection in deputy commissioner’s office auditorium on Thursday, December 27.

She said, “Janapada fair, siri fair, organic produce fair, skill fair, fruits and flower exhibition and cultural programmes will be held on the occasion.

“Symposium, essay competitions from college students and public speaking competitions will be held. Pictures of Barkur’s history will be drawn in the leadership of expert artistes.

“Rs one crore will be released by department of tourism for the programme. Department of horticulture will release another Rs 25 lac. I have already spoken to minister of tourism Sa Ra Mahesh and minister of horticulture Managoli who have agreed to release the funds.

“Efforts will be made for release of special postal stamp. Different committees including local people are formed in the leadership of deputy commissioner for the success of the festival,” she said.

Deputy commissioner Priyanka Mary Francis, additional deputy commissioner Vidya Kumari, Santhosh Gurooji and others were present.
