Mangaluru: 11 boats used for illegal sand mining seized

Mangaluru, Dec 28: The officials of department of Mines and Geology seized 11 boats engaged in illegal sand mining here at Jeppinamogaru and Arkula Dakke on Friday, December 28.

The officials raided the boats in the evening for engaging in illegal sand mining. However, the people in the boats managed to escape.

As per officials at Arkula Dakke, the license holder engaged in sand mining violated the rules and regulations of department of Mines and Geology. Officials granted permission to him to use three boats and at the time of inspection it was found he was using five boats for mining. Hence, the officials seized the two extra boats.

At Jeppinamogaru, the boat owner was engaged in sand mining without any license or permission. The officials seized all nine boats used for the illegal activity.

Assistant commissioner Ravichandra Nayak, officials of department of Mining and Geology Moorthy and Padmashree headed the raid and inspection.
