Bengaluru, Dec 29: Legislative Assembly secretary S Murthy has been suspended from service for rules of procedure violation during the Belagavi legislative session of 2016-17.

The suspension order has been sent by the subordinate secretary as per the orders of the special board.

For the Belagavi session of 2016 Rs 20 crore was spent. In the year 2017 the expenses were 21.57 crore. S Murthy has been suspended from his position for allegedly not inviting the tender and spending unnecessarily.

Many accusations were heard with regards to the expenditure of the Belagavi session of 2016-17. The finance department had expressed the suspicion that the at least Rs 10 to 12 crore of unnecessary burden was put on the state exchequer.

S Murthy had given the information to the government that Rs 10 to 12 crore was spent on the winter session of Belagavi for the food expenses during the sessions, installation of pendals, painting work of Suvarna Soudha, construction of toilets, purchase of mosquito nets etc. As there is a huge variation in the expenses report provided by S Murthy and that was submitted by the auditing team, he has been suspended as per the sources in the ministry.
