New Delhi, Dec 31 (IANS): There will be no sitting of Parliament on Tuesday, the New Year Day, it was announced by the Chairs in both the Houses.

The Chairs took the decision on the request of some members who were not keen to work on New Year Day.

While in the Rajya Sabha the decision was unanimous, the Lok Sabha witnessed a little drama over the issue with the ruling party members resisting the proposal of leave.

RSP MP N.K. Premachandran mooted the proposal for leave on January 1 in the lower House, saying the Rajya Sabha had already declared leave on New Year Day. It was met with noisy protests by the BJP members.

A little while later, Congress party leader Mallikarjun Kharge repeated the proposal but underlined that the leave should be given with the ruling party's consensus.

Speaker Sumitra Mahajan then told the members that she was ready to give the leave and accordingly adjourned the House till Wednesday morning.

The Lok Sabha passed the Supplementary Demand for Grants and the National Medical Council Bill.

Earlier, the Rajya Sabha was adjourned till Wednesday 11 a.m. amid ruckus. The House was scheduled to discuss the Triple Talaq bill but it could not be taken up amidst opposition's insistence on referring the bill to a Select Committee.

In heated exchanges, both the opposition and the government accused each other of doing politics on the issue.
