Kasargod: New Year celebrations - revellers block road, seriously injure ASI

Kasargod, Jan 1: An assistant sub-inspector (ASI) attached to Bekal police station here was stabbed by one of the revellers celebrating New Year. He was trying to disperse a crowd that was blocking the traffic and creating nuisance in the name of New Year celebrations.

The seriously injured ASI has been identified as Jayaraj. He stands admitted into a hospital at Mangaluru for treatment. The incident happened in the wee hours of Tuesday January 1.

Jayaraj had gone to the spot where the people were blocking the road in the guise of celebrations. When he tried to send the crowd away, he was stabbed by someone in the crowd. A case in this respect stands registered in Bekal police station, and policemen have begun probe into the incident.
