Mangaluru Jan 1: District in-charge minister U T Khader released logo of River Festival at DC office here on Tuesday January 1. The festival will be held on January 12 and 13 at backwaters of Kulur, Tannirbhavi and Sultan Battery.

Speaking on the occasion, deputy commissioner Sasikanth Senthil said, "We have to do the marketing of backwater and protect it. We have been successfully conducting beach festival, but our backwater is not utilized to its potential. We should also create awareness on backwater and its importance,”



"During this two-day river festival, there will be water based events such as Kiaking, rowing and many more. We have selected backwaters of Kulur, Tannirbhavi and Sultan Battery. Programmes will be held at Bengre Kulur as there will be food festival, film festival, stalls and much more. People can reach here through boating from three points, Tannirbhavi, Kulur and Sultan Battery for which temporary jetty service will be provided. Other modes of transport like buses are also arranged. Private vehicles are not allowed. One can reach the venue through cycling also,” he added.

"Along with food festival and film festival, there will musical event, concerts and many more such programmes are lined up during this two- day event” he informed.

U T Khader said, "We have the potential to promote tourism. We should prepare something like this to attract more number of people. River is a model and such festivals should create awareness,”

"There are many demands to include Beach festival in Abbakka Utsava which will be included this time around. Abbakka Utsav is expected to conducted in the month of February.” Khader added.

Regarding Abbakka Utsav ADC Kumar said, ”We have conducted a meeting to form the committees to conduct Abbakka Utsav.”

City Police commissioner T R Suresh, DCP Uma Prashanth, MCC commissioner Mohammed Nazeer, Zilla Panchayat CEO Dr Selvamani and others were present.

    We want foreigners to visit Dk Udupi . Kundapura. Admistration should provide basic infrastructure like Hotels Good roads Electricity etc. Only conducting these programmes for locals will not boosts tourisrm. Just see Kerala. They pramote in media. Make some nice advertisement and publish in Tv magazines . Also stop moral policing.
