Chikkamagaluru: Forest fire threatens to destroy large tracts of Charmadi Ghat

Chikkamagaluru, Jan 2: Forest fire which originated in Maloor reserve forest located on Charmadi Ghat is spreading. Hundreds of trees, plants and other vegetation along with wildlife in large numbers are suspected to have already been destroyed.

As per reports, this forest fires has spread over about 50 acres of area near Mudigere. The fire continues to rage although it has not gained gigantic proportion. If the intensity of forest fire increases, it can give rise to large scale devastation.



A large pasture located inside the forest was also turned into ashes. Birds nested inside bushes and shrubs, wildlife like forest sheep and hares, insects like butterflies have been devoured by the fire already.

The fire was first sighted on a small scale three days back. It has now been expanding slowly to other areas.
