Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Jan 2: "Dakshina Kannada happens to be a district of educated people. It is geographically and socially rich. Working in a district that has been witnessing fastest growth in the state will surely be a challenging task," felt newly appointed district superintendent of police, Lakshmi Prasad.

He took over change as superintendent of police on Tuesday January 1 in place of former SP, Dr B R Ravikanthe Gowda, who has been promoted as inspector general of police and transferred to the department of fire services, Bengaluru.

The SP said he wants to work to make police stations more people-friendly on the lines of his predecessor. He hoped that people will cooperate with him in this task. He asserted that illegal activities will not be allowed. He said that being educated, people of this district have knowledge of law. If they follow law, there will not be any problem, he observed.

He said hat Ajekar in Karkala is the native place of his maternal grandfather and that his parents were employed in Kudremukh Iron Ore Company Ltd and he studied in Kudremukh Central School. When in high school, he used to visit Karkala and Mangaluru with his parents. He said he can understand Tulu. Before joining police service, he was working for Hewlett Packard company at Mahadevapura and drew annual pay package of Rs 11 lac. As he was attracted towards serving the people, he appeared for UPSC examination, passed by securing high marks, and joined police force.

Lakshmi Prasad's posting here has given jitters to sand dons as he is known to have fought relentlessly against the sand mafia in Bagalakote district before coming here.

Now a day’s most of the UPSE officers are very highly educated and most of them are joining the police force with the good intention of serving people, which I consider is good for the society. They always thrive in justifying their decision through good governance. Wishing the newly appointed SP of Dakshina Kannada district all the best!
