Parliament clears bill to provide quota for general category


New Delhi, Jan 9 (IANS): Parliament on Wednesday passed the Constitution amendment Bill to provide 10 per cent quota in jobs and education for economically backward sections in the general category.

The Constitution (124th Amendment) Bill, 2019 was passed by the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday, a day after it was passed by the Lok Sabha.

The Rajya Sabha passed it after a division with 165 members voting in its favour and seven against. The House saw a lively debate which lasted over eight hours.
