Udupi, Jan 30: The process of collecting rice called ‘Akki Muhoortha’ of devotion and diligence began in Car Street premises today under the leadership of next Paryaya Swamy Adamaru Shree. The seer said that Prasada is prepared out of pure organic rice will be distributed to thousands of devotees visiting Udupi Krishna math from next year.

Paryaya is being celebrated in Udupi Krishna math once in two years. The next Paryaya will be held on January 18, 2020. Adamaru math has the right to perform pooja in Krishna math and provide meals to devotees visiting the math for next two years. Therefore, the process of collecting rice called ‘Akki Muhoortha’ began in Adamaru math as per traditional customs.



The rice was brought in procession to Car Street. People chanted religious slogans and the procession was accompanied by a band. The rice was taken to Adamaru math after performing pooja in Krishna math. Junior seer Ishapriya Theertha Swamy announced that delicacies will be prepared in Krishna math with organic rice and vegetables for next two years.

Eighteen varieties of local rice are selected for the purpose. The rice will be bought directly from the farmers. Shree opined that the custom will help save varieties of rice which are on the verge of extinction.
