Bengaluru, Feb 5: The city police arrested three persons for abducting, assaulting and robbing an Infosys software engineer Anurag Sharma, in the pretext of offering a drop to Chennai in the early hours of February 2.

The three persons arrested have been identified as Ganesh (29), Sridhar (30) and Umesh (20) from Anekal. Police have seized their Maruti Omni car. Another accused Venu is absconding and efforts are on to track him, the police said.

Anurag had come to Bengaluru on January 26 on some personal work was supposed to return on January 31. As he arrived late at the departure terminal, he started looking for other modes of transport to reach Chennai. A van with four men pulled in Anurag Sharma in the pretext of dropping him to Chennai.

Unaware of the intentions of the accused, Sharma got in. As the van moved a little distance, the accused thrashed Sharma, tied him up and took the money from his wallet. They withdrew Rs 45,000 from his debit card by getting his pin number after threatening him at knife point.

Initial investigations revealed that Ganesh had hatched a plan to kill his relative Shobhraj. Police informed that he was a habitual offender and was earlier arrested for burglary and theft in various city police stations.

Ganesh was remanded to judicial custody, but was released on bail recently. Further investigations are being carried out.
