New Delhi, Feb 7: The Delhi police had to intervene to stop a delegation of Kannada writers and activists from partying and creating nuisance at Karnataka Bhavan on late Wednesday night.

Members of Kannada Development Authority (KDA) who were staying at the Karnataka Bhavan were allegedly partying in a room. Supreme Court Judge Justice Dinesh Maheshwari, who was also Chief Justice of Karnataka High Court, was also staying in one of the rooms on the same floor of Karnataka Bhavan. The judge who was disturbed by the commotion created by the partying crowd sent his personal security officer asking people to talk in a low voice.

However, the delegation ignored the warning of the security officer and continued creating noise. The Judge came down to the reception and called for the police.

Soon after the judge complained, nearly dozen policemen rushed to Karnataka Bhavan and closed the main gate to prevent anyone from going outside. They also entered the room, where the party was happening and warned that a case will be booked. Resident Commissioner Nilay Mitash also rushed to Karnataka Bhavan after receiving the news.

Upon investigations it was found that the delegation was partying with liquor even though its consumption was strictly banned in Karnataka Bhavan. Some of the writers who have houses in Delhi were using the Karnataka Bhavan accommodation which is a clear violation. As per norms only outstation guests can be housed at the Bhavan.

Karnataka Government sought an explanation from Resident Commissioner Nilay Mitesh.
