Kundapur, Feb 8: A person running a hotel business at Singapore lost his life in a road accident here on the night of Thursday February 7. In the accident which happened near Basha Transport on service road of national highway 66 here, ill-fated entrepreneur, Vivekananda S K (42), son of Shankaranarayana from Markodu in the taluk, was killed.
Vivekananda was crushed under the wheels of a truck.
The victim used to operate a hotel business at Singapore along with his younger brother. He was married. He had come home on Wednesday evening to attend the naming ceremony of his baby daughter, which was to be held on Saturday.
Vivekananda had visited the town on Thursday evening to buy certain things needed for the naming ceremony. He was returning home at around 8.15 pm in his Honda Activa two-wheeler, when tragedy struck. All the vehicles were forced to move on the congested service road as highway widening work was on. Vivekananda too was riding his vehicle on service road towards Koteshwara. An insulator truck that was moving towards Udupi from the direction of the town hit the vehicle Vivekananda was riding from behind in the narrow service road. Due to unexpected jolt, Vivekananda lost his control over the vehicle and fell on the road. Instantly, the rear wheel of the truck moved over his head. Although Vivekananda was wearing a helmet, his helmet was crushed into pieces, and his head was smashed. He lost his life on the spot.
A case in this connection was registered in traffic police station here. The police, who arrested the lorry driver, also took custody of the vehicle.
