Udupi, Feb 8: Udupi district rarely comes across incidents which disturb the conscience of the people and peace in the society. But the recent double murder case of young men, Yatish Kanchan and Bharat Poojary, within the limits of Kota police station in the taluk has succeeded in instilling a sense of apprehension among the people.

It has been over ten days since the murder of the innocent youth happened. The police personnel claim to be inching towards making the arrests through carefully planned strategies. The police have been overlooking rumours which are spreading like wildfire relating to the case, and have been continuing with their probe with utmost caution.

Some sources claim that a political leader is among the accused in this double murder. The police are trying to find out the truth behind this information, as they guess that this person would have instigated the concerned to commit the murders. The police have subjected seven people to questioning so far, and search is on for two more people.

Reliable sources claim that two persons, Rajashekhar Reddy and Ravi, have been arrested from Madikeri. Rajashekhar Reddy happens to be the brother of Harish Reddy. The other accused, Ravi, is from Tallur.

Teams headed by deputy superintendent of police, Jaishankar, and additional superintendent of police, Kumar Chandra, have been conducting investigation. Reportedly, arrest of main accused, Harish Reddy, remains to be accomplished. In all possibility, the arrested accused would be produced in the court soon.

Although there has been some progress in the probe undertaken by the police, the officials are tight-lipped about the details.   They have just been claiming that investigation is progressing and that they would bring the truth before the media at the earliest. It appears that they are apprehensive about the evidences being destroyed if they come out with shreds of evidence prematurely.

The police have taken friends of deceased Yatish and Bharat into confidence and assured them that the department would take care to see that such incidents do not recur. The department has been undertaking its operation in a subtle way to make sure that the accused get maximum punishment in this case.

Even though a well-established political party is said to be extending support to the accused, details have not been made public. The general public strongly believes this to be a pre-planned murder. Many have been expressing the view that the young people were murdered because of the fear that these youngsters, who were rising in public stature, might block the progress of the people who hatched this murder plan.

People are curious about what turn this ten-day old murder will take next. They want the probe into the murders to be held properly and methodically, and that the families concerned should get justice.
