Rahul provoking armed forces against government: Sitharaman

New Delhi, Feb 8 (IANS): Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Friday rejected Congress President Rahul Gandhi's charge that Prime Minister Narendra Modi ran parallel negotiation for the Rafale deal and accused him of provoking the armed forces against the government.

"Today I object to what Rahul has said -- he was telling Air Force pilots and officers 'look what Prime Minister is doing to you'. What does this mean, what is going on in his mind? Does he want to provoke them? Does he want to make them stand up against the government? Is it a responsible job of the Opposition? It is very dangerous," she told media outside Parliament.

"Congress has become a toy in the dirty game of multinational corporates. Their language is not in the interest of the country," she alleged.

Sitharaman said that she was "very shocked" to see this attitude.

"Rahul Gandhi, in his press conference today, called the PM a thief and me a liar. I had also said earlier that as we have not come from a known family, so they try to tarnish our image."

Her remarks came soon after Gandhi, earlier in the day, addressed a press conference and accused Prime Minister of being directly involved in the Rafale fighter jet deal with France by running parallel negotiation in 2015.

Lashing out at an English newspaper for carrying out a "one-sided" story, the Defence Minister said, "One newspaper has printed a file noting, which is written by (former) Defence Secretary. In the same note he is saying Defence Minister should make a statement.

"The then Defence Minister (Manohar Parrikar) has seen that noting and also signed it. What was the response of then Defence Minister Parrikar? I said the same thing in Parliament."

Slamming the media house, she said, "If the news report carried one noting, then it should have also carried the response of the then Defence Minister in its news report. That is ethical journalism."

Quoting the then Defence Minister's reply to that file noting, Sitharaman said, "Your note is right, but there is no need to get excited so much. Everything is alright. This was Parrikar's reply, which is there in the files of the Defence Secretary."

"I am sorry there was selective noting and building an issue falsely on it," she said, adding that the response of the then Defence Minister was very clear.

She also asserted that on the direction of the same Defence Secretary and the Member of the Negotiating Committee with their signatures, the file went to the Cabinet Committee on Security and Cabinet. "Only after that clearance was given and then an agreement signed," she said.

Defending the Prime Minister and the PMO, Sitharaman said, "If the PMO asks for the progress in a matter, can it be considered interference or parallel negotiation?"

Referring to Sonia Gandhi, who held the post of the Chairperson of National Advisory Council (NAC) during the UPA governments, she said, "Was Soniaji interfering in the working of every ministry or running a parallel cabinet or snatching the rights of any minister?

"Highlighting a selective part is not good. I have a lot of expectations from Congress," she added.

Honourable Indian Defence Minister Ms. Sitharaman; by giving statement about Rahul Gandhi saying "
Rahul provoking armed forces against government"; shows your desperation and this leads to the conclusion that you have already accepted the facts expressed by Rahul Gandhi.

Also it gives enough room for others about your capability of handling the delicate Ministry, Indian Defence. This imaginary, negative statement should have been given by you about our armed forces. It hurts the patriotic citizens like me.

Because of our armed forces, we can have sound sleep and their sacrifice cannot be forgotton till our last breath.

    Namaste Auntiji,
Mr. N Ram veteran journalist who exposed 'Bofors' brought to an end to former PM Rajiv Gandhi government who is the father of Congress President Rahul Gandhi. Today N Ram is exposing PM Modiji's government on Rafale Jet scam which Rahul Gandhi is repeating.

The fact is MODI’S RAFALE DEFENCE DEAL HAS LEFT INDIA LAGGING behind CHINA and PAKISTAN. India puts defense preparedness on the back burner as a result of the controversy over the purchase of Rafale fighter aircraft, even as regional rivals continue to arm rapidly

In March, a senior general testified before a parliamentary defense committee that more than two-thirds of the army’s equipment was obsolete, while only 8% was state-of-the-art. The navy and air force were only slightly better off.
Defence Ministry sources have ruled out early tendering for the announced purchase of 110 medium fighters, worth an estimated US$15 billion to US$18 billion. This means the Indian Air Force (IAF) must make do with just 31 squadrons of fighter aircraft – 11 short of its authorized 42 squadrons, which planners believe are essential for a “two-front war” against regional adversaries China and Pakistan if they were to join forces. Nor is early movement likely on the Indian Navy’s global procurement of 57 fighters, or an aircraft carrier that is to be built in the country.
By contrast, China and Pakistan are continuing to arm rapidly. Beijing is selling Islamabad its increasingly sophisticated fighter aircraft, warships and ground systems, building up Pakistan as its cat’s paw in South Asia.
Although Ambani’s Reliance Group has never manufactured a single aerospace component, it formed a joint venture with Dassault called Dassault Reliance Aerospace Limited (DRAL), which Ambani admits will benefit from close to a billion dollars in offset-related manufacture.

First of all, I would like to thank Mr. N Ram and the Hindu back to investigative journalism and explosive exposes. This explosive exposes catches the PM with his hands in the till in the Rafale deal! Will be the last nail in Modi's coffin, just as Ram's Bofors exposes destroyed the Rajiv government.
The Hindu reported "PMO was directly negotiating Rafale deal despite Ministry of Defence objections.
N Ram, a veteran journalist, and the Hindu publishing group chairman, in another lengthy report, wrote that “French side took advantage of parallel parleys by the PMO that weakened the negotiating position of MoD and Indian Negotiating Team.” The report referring to a Ministry’s 2015 note, said that the Ministry had brought it to the attention of the then Defence Minister, Manohar Parrikar as well.
It is now crystal clear that PM Modi “guilty” in Rafale deal. This not only nails PM’s lies but also shows that the government lied to the SC in submissions made in a sealed cover.
    1. This 'Namaste' defense aunty has failed to explain why PM Modi needs to do pulled negotiations when the Ministry of Defence has finalized the proposal and the order is on the books?
    2. Modiji office in the letter to the Supreme Court said 'HAL need 2.57 times more man-hours than Dassault'. How does Anil Ambani's10 days old company which has filed insolvency in banks and have no official website, no infrastructure, no manpower be eligible for defense contract?
Defense minister Nirmala Sitharaman, who had been involved in student politics as a JNU student, puts 'anti-India' tag on JNU winners after his Rajya Sabha member TV showed fake video of 'Thukde Thukde' and Pakistan Zindabad emerged from their own student wing of ABVP, now running away from the Joint Parliamentary Committee.
I think in India's interest, Supreme Court which gave justices based on the sealed envelope when a nation wants transparency, should upheld petition and revoke this order to original deal during UPA II.

@Pai: But the question is why cant they ignore Rahul if he is as claimed by BJPee Bhaktards a Nothing and a no-one and if he doesnt have the support to threaten the formation of BJPee Cowernment in 2019? The truth my friend is that the Bhaktards are scared and nervous, scared of the fact that the support for Rahul has only increased the last 5 years whereas your BJPee party is slowly going down, just like the Titanic.. Now have some Chai and Pakoda digest it over this thought..
