Mangaluru, Feb 14: A housemaid employed in a house at Poomannu, Talapady near Ullal committed suicide on the evening of Wednesday, February 13.

Reshma (17) is the deceased person. She was employed in the house of Mohammed, an entrepreneur abroad. Mohammed had allowed the girl to work for the family of his cousin Hamid. The family members had gone out on Wednesday evening when the girl has committed suicide by hanging from ceiling fan. The incident came to light when the family members returned home.

Local people, who expressed suspicions, alleged that it is a murder and took the family members to task. “As the backdoor was open, it would not have been possible to hang from the steps,” they said. They urged the police that the body should be taken only after the reporters and forensic doctors arrived.

Nitte forensic department head Dr Mahabaleshwara Shetty after primary investigations said that it is a suicide as the girl had vomited saliva. It is said that further details will be available after post-mortem.

Ullal police have registered a case.

Police said that the real reason for the suicide will be known only after the family members of the girl arrive from Delhi on Thursday. The elder sister of Reshma was employed in the house a year ago. Reshma had come to work after her elder sister got married.

I have seen many families hiring these young girls for work and behaving very rudely to them... They give these worker food after thier family members dinner is over and that to whatever is left. There are educated people also in this list.. God know what mental or physical harassment or physical this young girl might have faced.
