Mangaluru: New train to Bengaluru - days of movement undergo changes

Mangaluru, Feb 19: The new night train between the city and Yeshwantpur (Bengaluru) is to be flagged off on February 21. However, the railway department has changed the days on which the train runs. The commuters are a little disheartened by this development, as they feel that the new days are not convenient for them.

At the behest of Dakshina Kannada MP, Nalin Kumar Kateel, the southwestern railway had sent proposal to the railway board proposing to introduce a night train between these two stations additionally on three days every week. The train was to begin its journey from Yeshwantpur on every Sunday, Tuesday, and Friday evening at 4.30 pm and reach the city (central) station at 4 am.

But, in partial modification of the time table, the southwestern railway, in its order dated February 14, has changed the day of departure of the train from Bengaluru to Thursdays instead of Fridays. For people from coastal Karnataka who work in software and other companies at Bengaluru, Friday night train is of high importance, observed railway technical adviser, Anil Hegde.

The southern railway officials have said that it is not possible to allow new trains to enter central railway station here on Saturday mornings.

The new train will be flagged off by MP Nalin Kumar Kateel at 1 am on February 21.

    I suggest train should reach Bangalore after 5.30am & vice versa to return to Mangalore to also after 5.30am. It is safe at the safety & security point of commuters.

    SWR has once again showed its step-motherly attitude to Mangalore eventhough it earns maximum from Mangalore. This train has probably been started because of the pressure from Kateel, SWR wil schedule it in such a way that it will not be convenient for people. Two months down the line, they will say, "See, we told you this train is a loss making proposition" and stop the train altogether after the election or more likely route it through Kerala via Kozhikode and Kannur.
    One just has to see stations of Kannur and Calicut to understand how SWR treats Mangalore. While these stations have been modernized and look neat, Mangalore station still looks like it is in 8th century. This despite the fact the maximum revenue SWR earns is from freight from Mangalore.

    Why not possible for new trains to enter Mangalore Central on Saturdays? Is it an inauspicious day? It can be made possible if all those innumerable Kerala bound trains are diverted to Mangalore Junction. M’lore Central should be reserved for east and north bound trains only. Or extend the new train up to Udupi bypassing Mangalore Central.

    As I commented a few days back on related news, it is clear that the mallu lobby of palghat railway section won't allow the new train to enter Mangaluru central. There should be severe protest from locals, all the south bound trains should be stopped by force @ Mangaluru central. First preference should be given to North & east bound trains from Mangaluru Central.

    Please note this train starts from Mangaluru Central and end at mangaluru central from Yeshvanthpur. What is the issue with this?? I didnt get

    As per earlier schedule, the train would leave every Sunday, Tuesday, and Friday evening from Bengaluru and reach Mangaluru Central on next day early morning @ 4 A.M. i.e Friday train would reach Mangaluru on Saturday early morning. Now this Friday train is rescheduled to Thursday.
    This was made by mallu lobby to accommodate South bound train towards kerala from Mangaluru central. For coastal people, Friday evening departing train from Bengaluru is more helpful since it reaches Mangaluru on weekend Saturday morning. Earlier also mallu lobby was successful in stopping the Mumbai bound Janashatabdi train @ Mangaluru Junction citing lack of platform @ Mangaluru Central but at the same time allowing new trains from Mangaluru central towards Kerala.
