Gunfight in J&K

Srinagar, Feb 22 (IANS): A gunfight erupted on Friday between the security forces and militants in Jammu and Kashmir's Sopore town, police said.

Upon receiving a tip-off about the militants, the security forces started a search operation in Warpora village.

"As the cordon around the hiding militants was tightened, they fired at the security forces triggering the ongoing encounter," the police said.

Authorities have suspended mobile Internet services in Sopore and adjoining areas.

Restrictions have been imposed in the town to maintain law and order.
