Bengaluru, Feb 25: Nine people who forced the owners to close Karachi Bakery’s Bengaluru outlet assuming that it belonged to a Pakistani, were arrested by city police.

Additional CP (East) Seemantha Kumar, speaking to media persons said, "The accused had barged into the outlet asking for details about the owners. They also threatened to cover the name 'Karachi' and this has happened following recent terror attack, assuming that the owners belonged to Karachi city. We have detained nine people after checking CCTV footage of the outlet."

He added that the accused were not associated with any particular group or organisation.

The accused will be charged for threat under IPC 506 (Punishment for criminal intimidation) and produced in court.

Meanwhile, it is learnt that the outlet belonged to one Khanchand Ramnani, who migrated to India from Pakistan during the partition.

The outlet in its statement said, “The brand was established in 1953 and is an Indian company based out of Hyderabad. The popularity of its products has contributed to its growth throughout the country and abroad. The essence of Karachi bakery is absolutely Indian at heart and will remain so. We request everybody to refrain from any kind of misconceptions."
