Bengaluru: Adhar linkage - 50 lac ration cards deleted in one go

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru (SP)

Bengaluru, Feb 26: It is learnt that the food department has completed the process of linking ration cards to Adhar cards to the extent of 99.9 percent. Through this process, about 50 lac ration cards have lost their existence and the state government has saved around Rs 100 crore, sources stated.

The decision to link ration cards with Adhar had been taken to plug leakage and bring transparency in operations. The state has completed linking of 99.9 percent cards with Adhar numbers. The centre had ordered for linking of ration cards with Adhar in September 2017.

The cancelled cards fall in different categories like same family having two different cards at two places, cards issued on the basis of false address and fake documents etc. Cancellation of cards will also affect Arogya Karnataka scheme. Under this scheme, every card holder has been provided with health insurance cover of two lac rupees. Cancellation of 50 lac cards amounts to saving of Rs 100 crore. The insurance amount under the central government's Ayushman Bharat scheme is five lac rupees, and money saved through card cancellation under this scheme is much higher, officials confess.

Food department commissioner, T H M Kumar, said that 99.9 percent Adhar linking has been done and ration items are also been issued to about 30,000 differently abled beneficiaries who do not have hands, fingers etc even though their cards are not linked to Adhar.

In the country as a whole, 2.75 crore ration cards have been deleted due to Adhar linking. Highest number of fake ration cards were found from uttar Pradesh (68.8 lac), with West Bengal standing second with 66.13 lac deleted ration cards. Karnataka, which is placed third, has cancelled 50 lac cards, which accounts for nearly 40 percent of total 1.44 crore ration cards existing in the state.

    Natraj,

Those days we were getting kerosene, sugar, rice and palmoline. Even if I am to agree that the loot took place, people still got the ration.

As per you, now no loot by govt also no distribution to people also. All goes to Ambanis, Adanis, Modis, Chokseys... Or, it gets rotten in the godowns being food to the rodents... what do you say ??

That's not all, their children go to best schools in the city ! One (watch)man has his own vehicle - drops/pics his children from school. My children go walking to the buss top and there onward by bus. No, not because we can't drop/pick them, we instill in them the habit of walking because all days may not be as green as now. Whereas, these BPL people don't look like being BPL.

Had Aadhar Card brain Nandan Nilekani's project to complete Aadhar identity to all citizens, was not opposed by the same NDA during UPA regime,
Long ago, all ration cards and all Govt schemes would have have been linked, and crores of Govt treasury amount would have been saved.

    It will happen,
Linking PAN card to aadhar was a tedious task, since there was large mismatch in name, surname, parents name, age etc. Comparetively voters ID linking will be still more tedious and will take more time.

Who will benefit from the saving ! Or it will be spent on image building /publicity!
Secondly how many of us get food from these ration shops, when aadhar is available why do we need different cards ( voter id/ ration card etc).

I am not sure in which part of India you are living. Where I do, we get white rice (only) in the ration shop. It costs Rs. 15/- whereas the same rice costs Rs. 35/- in regular grocery shops. It does make a difference and I make it a point to buy this rice that can be used to make Dosa or such snacks. BPL card holders get this very rice for Re. 1/-

Apart from this, a Ration Card is one of the many standard ID proofs we hold.

    Jennifer, Mangalore,
    Agreed,
According to you still many people use subsidized food grains through Ration shops, but this can be done through Aadhar card too. Our beloved PM insisted on digitizing India, then why government is spending money on different cards. If by cancelling 50 Lac cards government can save 100 crores, imagine how many crores can be saved by cancelling this card totally.

I strongly recommend one all purpose card aadhar card ( vote id, ration card, link to bank account, linked to sim card, link to property papers, linked to driving license, linked to car ownership papers etc.....

Good news. Now, please crack down on fake BPL card holders. There are several people earning more than 20L per month, yet holding a BPL card.

Please clarify the criteria for issuing/holding a BPL card and eliminate those cards that are fraudulently issued. If the population below poverty line is counted based on such cards, our country will never cross the line of poverty.
