Bengaluru, Feb 28: The manager of Karachi Bakery here has complained to the police about having received a threat call. He said that the caller warned him to change the word, 'Karachi' in the name of the firm's signboard failing which the store would be exploded.
The threat apparently has come from someone who appears to be feeling the heat of worsening relationship between India and Pakistan and capturing of a pilot of Indian Air Force by Pakistan on Wednesday.
The police informed that the person who called the bakery gave his name as Vicky Shetty. Vicky Shetty is an underworld fugitive as per police records, and he had indulged in a number of criminal activities in the past. They have registered a case accordingly.
It may be recalled that recently, one of the outlets of this reputed bakery chain had to cover the word, 'Karachi' in its name board after the management was forced to do so. A gang of over a dozen men had barged into the bakery and pressurized the management to remove the word, 'Karachi' from the name board after the Pulwama attack in which about 40 CRPF men lost their lives.
The bakery, in response to backlash over its name in social media, posted a confirmation saying that Karachi Bakery which was set up 1953 at Hyderabad, was started by Khanchand Ramani. Its outlets were later set up at Bengaluru, New Delhi, and Mumbai. The bakery said that it was absolutely Indian by heart and will remain so, duly clarifying that its owners had migrated to India during partition. The bakery chain also has requested people to refrain from having any kind of misconceptions about the bakery chain.
