Udupi: Countdown begins for SMKC Dubai’s 53rd Wilson Olivera Nite

Udupi, Mar 1: The countdown has begun and a huge and attractive two-level stage is being set up on the open grounds of Christian Pre-University College, opposite Lombard Memorial Hospital, Udupi. St Mary’s Konkan Community (SMKC) Dubai, together with Indian Catholic Youth Movement (ICYM) of Udupi diocese committee members are all geared up for the spectacular mega show ‘Grand Konkan Showers 2019 - 53rd Wilson Olivera Nite’ scheduled to be held on March 3 from 5.30pm onwards.

The ever popular will be the limelight on the day. All this set up is in aid of the Pastoral Centre and Laity Animation Centre of the new diocese of Udupi.

About SMKC, Dubai

SMKC, Dubai is a premier philanthropic association in the UAE. It has contributed Rs 2.25 crore towards community welfare projects during the past 18 years. The association has been shining in the fields of Konkani language, culture, education, social service, and the like. It has not only supported the poor and needy, but also assisted professional students to pursue their studies.

Cause of the event

The diocese of Udupi, erected on July 16, 2012, has been striving to establish its basic infrastructure in order to implement its vision and mission spelt out in the pastoral plan, Mission-2025, through its 18 Commissions. The needs of the hour of the infant diocese are:

1) A pastoral centre

2) A minor seminary

3) A home for retired priests

4) The bishop’s house

The amount collected through donations, sponsorships, offerings, etc. will go directly to the implementation of the said projects of the diocese. The diocese remains grateful to SMKC Dubai and to Catholic Youth Movement, Udupi diocese for their willing cooperation and generous assistance.

It appreciates the generosity of the benefactors and donors in India as well as abroad who are supporting the cause. It thanks Paul Colaco, president, SMKC Dubai, Dion D’Souza, president, Catholic Youth Movement, diocese of Udupi, the office bearers and members of both the associations, and all the donors for their kind help.

As an infant diocese, the diocese of Udupi is striving to establish its basic infrastructure in order to implement its vision and mission spelt out in the Pastoral Plan.

In 2017, SMKC had organized Grand Konkan Showers, Wilfy Nite 2017 to assist the diocese in its financial need. Now, in association with the Indian Catholic Youth Movement, Udupi Diocese, it has come forward to present a mega event Grand Konkan Showers 2019, the 53rd Wilson Olivera Nite. I urge you to attend this musical event in large numbers and encourage the artists and support the cause.

May I request all the people of good will to contribute generously towards this cause and support the well being of the diocese of Udupi diocese.

Highlights of the show

Popular Konkani composer and singer ‘Sangeeth Sardar’ Wilson Olivera will be ably supported by the talented music director Roshan D’Souza-Angelore and his troupe and popular singers, dancers from the ever-green ‘Nach Sobhann’ team. Rib-tickling comedy from the ever-popular group ‘The Expressions’ will add spice to the event.

Ronald Olivera, an internationally admired public speaker will be the compere. The dance performances will be presented by members of ‘Nach Sobhann’.

The organisers have arranged more than 3,000 car park spaces along with 50 buses.

    Bishop Gerald is a visionary. He takes care of every aspect of the Diocese. I know this one is a great project. I am sure with Divine assistance and good hearted people, his dream for this infant Diocese will come true. Congratulations for organizing such a event to support the cause of this in need Diocese.
