Beltangady, Mar 1: A normal fight which broke out between brothers at Kalenja near Dharmasthala ended with the murder of one among them.

Jarappa from Kalenja has been accused of stabbing his elder brother, Sanjeeva (49) to death.

The two brothers fought with each other after getting drunk on the night of Tuesday. After a bout of verbal altercation, Jarappa grew angry and stabbed Sanjeeva in the head with a knife. Sanjeeva, who suffered serious injuries, was provided treatment at a clinic at Kayartadka after which the family members had shifted him to a private hospital at Mangaluru. Without responding to treatments, Sanjeeva breathed his last at the hospital on Thursday February 28.

Sanjeeva lived with his four younger brothers in the family home. His wife had died after falling sick a few years back. Sanjeeva reportedly was suffering from some deadly disease. The locals said that drunken brawl was a common occurrence in this household.

The accused stands arrested by Dharmasthala police. The police have undertaken probe into the incident.

As the injury to Sanjeeva's head appeared to be minor in nature, the family members had initially claimed with the doctors at the hospital that Sanjeeva had fallen on tiled floor and had suffered injury. However, after he breathed his last, they developed cold feet and revealed to the police what had actually transpired.
