Cabinet okays revised cost for NE road development plan


New Delhi, Mar 1 (IANS): The Union Cabinet on Thursday approved the proposal for cost revision for the Asian Development Bank-assisted "North Eastern State Roads Investment Programme" (NESRIP) to Rs 2,144.56 crore.

The original approved cost for the project was Rs 1,353.83 crore. The programme aims to construct and improve 433.7 km of state roads in Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Sikkim and Tripura.

The project has also been extended up to August 2022, an official statement said.

THe NESRIP was approved by the Cabinet on May 19, 2011 to be executed within five years. "Around 4.8 million people living adjacent (within 10 km) to the project roads will be benefited directly," said the statement.
