SMKC's 53rd Wilson Olivera Nite to fund Pastoral & Laity Animation Centre of Udupi diocese

Udupi, Mar 1: “St Mary's Konkan Community (SMKC), Dubai, in association with Indian Catholic Youth Movement (ICYM), Udupi diocese, will be presenting a mega event, 'Grand Konkan Showers 2019', in the form of 53rd Wilson Olivera Nite at the Christian Pre University College grounds opposite Lombard Memorial Hospital on March 3 at
5.30pm. The proceeds of the programme will be used to fund the Pastoral and Laity Animation Centre of the newly formed diocese of Udupi,” said Fr Denis D'Sa, diocesan progamme coordinator.

Addressing media, he said, “SMKC Dubai is a leading philanthropic association in the UAE that has contributed Rs 2.25 crore to community welfare projects over the last 18 years. The association has served in particular, the fields of Konkani language, culture, education, social service and others. In addition to supporting the poor and the needy, it has also helped students to pursue their dreams of undertaking professional education.

“Udupi diocese was established on July 16, 2012. It has been making efforts to set up basic infrastructure in order to implement its vision and mission as spelt out in the 'Pastoral Plan - Mission 2025' through its 18 commissions. This diocese which is still in its early years of inception, needs a pastoral and laity animation centre, a minor seminary, a home for the retired priests, and the Bishop's house. The amount collected by way of donations, sponsorship, offerings etc will directly go towards the implementation of the said projects.

“The diocese appreciates SMKC Dubai, ICYM of Udupi diocese, benefactors and donors form India and abroad for supporting this cause. The diocese has expressed gratefulness to Paul Colaco, SMKC Dubai president, Dion D'Souza, Catholic Youth Movement, Udupi diocese president, office bearers and members of both the organizations, in addition to CSI and Basel Mission Community for their cooperation, generous assistance, and for providing the grounds. It also has thanked the donors for their kind help,” he said.

Fr Denis D'Sa, Leslie Rego, Noel Mascarenhas, Joe Fernandes were present.

About 'Grand Konkan Showers - 2019'

'Grand Konkan Showers - 2019' being organized by SMKC Dubai in association with Indian Cathlic Youth Movement, Udupi diocese, will be in the form of musical extravaganza. The programme will be the 53rd musical concert of popular Konkani composer and singer, 'Sangeeth Sardar', Wilson Olivera. The programme will begin at 5.30 pm sharp on Sunday March 3.

Konkani musical icon, Wilson Olivera, will be ably supported by talented music director, Roshan D'Souza Angelore and his troupe, as well as popular singers and dancers from 'Nach Sobhann' team. Rib-tickling comedy by popular 'The Expressions' group will provide comical interludes. Ronald Olivera, an internationally acclaimed public speaker, will be the master of ceremony.

Bishop Gerald Isaac Lobo of Udupi diocese, Msgr Baptist Menezes, vicar general, Udupi, Paul Colaco, president SMKC, Pius D'Cruz, SMKC vice president, Fr Cyprian D'Souza, SMKC founder spiritual director, Noel Mascarenhas, founder president of SMKC, SMKC adviser, Joe Fernandes, SMKC ex president and chairperson of Charity Committee, Jennifer Mascarenhas, Ivan D'Souza, SMKC member, Walter D'Souza Nandalike, founder member and chief editor of Daijiworld, Leslie Rego, programme coordinator, Dion D'Souza,. ICYM Udupi diocese president, Fr Edwin D'Souza, director of ICYM Udupi diocese, and Fr Valerian Menconda, diocesan programme coordinator, will be present.
