Pakistan says no to India’s request to send back IAF pilot by air

New Delhi, Mar01(PTI): Hours after Pakistan announced its decision to release Indian Air Force pilot Abhinandan Varthaman, India conveyed to Islamabad that it wants him to be sent back via aerial route and not through the Wagah land border, official sources said.

However, late in the night, Pakistan communicated to India that he will be returned through the Attari-Wagah border. The Indian defence establishment was also mulling over sending a special aircraft to Pakistan to bring back Wing Commander Varthaman who was captured by Pakistan during an aerial combat on Wednesday.

Varthaman will now return home through the Wagah border which is around 25 km from Lahore in Pakistan. The IAF pilot's MiG 21 was shot and he bailed out after bringing down one Pakistani F-16 fighter during a dogfight to repel a Pakistani attack on Wednesday morning. Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan Thursday announced that Varthaman will be released on Friday as "peace gesture".

Tensions between India and Pakistan escalated after Indian fighters bombed terror group Jaish-e-Mohammed's biggest training camp near Balakot deep inside Pakistan early Tuesday.

It came 12 days after 40 CRPF personnel were killed when a Jaish-e-Mohammad suicide bomber rammed a vehicle carrying over 100 kg of explosives into their bus in Pulwama distrit of Jammu and Kashmir on February 14.

Following the bombing of the JeM training camp, the Pakistan Air Force carried out a retaliatory aerial combat, unsuccessfully targeting several Indian military installations.

This staged drama from Pulwama attack to release of pilot couldn't have happened without giving huge amount of money to cash strapped Pakistan by Modi govt at a time where elections are right at the corner. Pakistan in the past has never released any Indian defence personnel alive after holding them for very long time. Pakistan will never ever oblige promptly without any substantial favour. Even China is quiet in this matter.
BJP will sell India to our enemy neighbours. Chowkidaar is Maut ka Saudagar.

@Mr.Shetty mangalore, whether we are selling India to our enemy or not,is very important that our soldier s/Pilot comes back to our mother earth .India should be ready to have back our sons on this soil. His health and presence is pretty important that he can be set for further possible attaches .He was trained here with lot of money, and we should let him there? No ,they are cunny .can also use him on us.His family too can blame us for not bringing back.

Hold your wild emotions and don't get carried away. Read my comments word by word and understand. Did you receive Rs 15 L equivalent in Euros from black money in Swiss bank, NiMo, Chowksi, Mallya and LaMo?????....All this money deposited abroad exclusively for Pakistan to create havoc in India and put a temporary band aid to Indians and gain credit.

I do agree with one poing here, our PM Modijee will go to any extent, including the soldier matyr's blood for his election gain. But here, I differ in your comments, that huge amount of money to cash strapped Pakistan by Modi. The saddest person of the release of our IAF pilot Abhinandan is Modi because he cannot prolong this issue of release and the issue of release of our pilot is closed.

You think Pakistan is doing charitable effort here. Pakistan has even defied US and lied about Bin Laden to US. There are no free lunches especially with cash strapped Pakistan and power hungry BJP but unfortunately our brave soldiers are paying the price with blood.

In this game of chess, Imran made the move faster and smarter. Chowkidar did not expect this peace offer. Pakis r v smart, they took the wind out of the terrorism discourse. Today no one is talking terrorism all are talking about the pilot and the lost plane and how Modi bought him back. Pakis got what they wanted, the focus on terrorism is gone. Isnt that what they wanted. Who lost? We the Indians. They will now ready the next terrorist attack. Chowkidar will again get ready to bradish his 56"
