Mandya, Mar 3: Expressing resentment at news appearing in a section of the media that family members of Guru from Gudigere Colony in Maddur taluk here, a soldier who lost his life in Pulwama attack, were fighting for the money that has been pouring into the family in the form of compensation and help, his wife, Kalavathi Guru, said that there is no misunderstanding among her family members.

Addressing a press meet here on Saturday March 2, Kalavathi pointed out that she had married the son of her paternal aunt whom she knew since her childhood, and her in-laws have been taking care of her like their own daughter. She felt that spreading unsubstantiated information about fight in the family for money is tantamount to showing disrespect to a family of patriots.

Kalavathi stressed that the information making the rounds that she was proposing to marry again, is also baseless. "I have never given the issue of remarriage any thought. Being the wife of a soldier who was loyal to his country, I do not want to deceive my husband and my conscience," she stated. She also stated that she is highly grateful to the government, people of the state and all the Indians for being with her family during the time of crisis and extending to them social, financial, and moral support. She said she is happy about the safe return of soldier, Abhinandan, and wanted all terrorist-related killings to stop.

Free education

Vice chancellor of Karnataka State Open University, Prof D Shivalingaiah, said at Mysuru that the university will provide free education to S Kalavathi, wife of Guru, noting that she has got admission into the first year of postgraduate course at the Ramanagara regional centre of the university. He said that taking into account interest evinced by her in pursuing further education, the university has proposed to provide her education without charging anything.
