Lucknow, Mar 7: A group of right-wing activists attacked two Kashmiri dry fruit vendors on a busy road in Lucknow on Wednesday, March 6.

In a widely-circulated video of the assault, the attackers can be seen saying that they thrashed the duo because they were from Kashmir.

The attackers clad in saffron kurtas, beat the men with wooden stick despite locals present at the spot asked them to stop beating the Kashmiri vendors.

Meanwhile, the police have arrested one person Bajrang Sonkar and a case of rioting and breach of peace has been registered.

Another accused Himanshu Awasthi, who claims to be the president of Vishwa Hindu Dal is yet to be arrested. Awasthi on his Facebook post claimed that he attacked the duo along with his men.

The video of the attack has been taken down from social media.

NDTV quoted senior police officer Anand Kumar saying that strongest possible action would be taken those who take law into their hands by targeting innocent Kashmiris.

Meanwhile, National Conference leader Omar Abdullah tagged Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Twitter and said that despite latter's assurance assault on innocent Kashmiris post Pulwama attack continues unabated. "Dear PM @narendramodi Sahib, this is what you had spoken against & yet it continues unabated. This is the state governed by your handpicked Chief Minister. Can we expect action in this case or do we file your concern & assurances as a jumla, meant to placate but nothing more? (sic)", he tweeted.

Congress, the AAP and Asaduddin Owaisi too condemned the brutal attack on innocent Kashmiris.

The attack comes amid reports of Kashmiris facing harassment and social boycott in different parts of the country after the Pulwama terror attack last month.

These so called ultra nationals who are actually goons should be rounded up and dropped at the frontlines at our borders where the Pakistani's are firing. Let them show us their courage and valour there, instead of beating up defenceless people on the streets.
