Puttur: Inhuman behaviour of medical staff, caretakers of endosulfan victims humiliated

Puttur, Mar 10: In an utterly disgusting and inhumane incident that occurred at Kumbra village in the taluk, the staff of a mobile medical unit allegedly insulted and humiliated the caretakers of endosulfan victims.

Mohammed Anees, a 15-year-old, bed-ridden victim of endosulfan died a week ago. Mohammed's house is located very close to the Thingalady primary health centre. But no one from the center paid a visit to the patient.

The team visited the parents of the deceased Anees only after his death. The parents, who were visibly frustrated at the apathy of the medical staff asked them angrily as to whether they have come to mock their present situation.

In one more house, where Akshatha, the 20-year-old, daughter of Radha Ganesh is suffering from the ill-effects of endosulfan and bed-ridden, no medical staff has visited their house since two years. Radha Ganesh expressed her rage at the medical staff, when they visited her house after two years and sought explanation from them.

It is said that the staff members of medical unit were so arrogant that they insulted the care takers of the endosulfan victims to give a written confirmation that they do not want the services of the mobile medical unit.

According to Sanjeeva Kabaka, an RTI activist, the staff should have shown compassion and spoken softly to the parents of the victims as they need guidance and counselling.

The request for water bed put forth by the parents of Anees, who passed away recently, was never heeded by the concerned medical authorities. In the case of Akshatha also, the request for waterbed is still elusive.

Thanks to daijiworld for reporting .Often, endosulfan victims are being ignored, deprived of recieving promised compensation from the government. It's not something happened to them by accident or by the act of god rather its a failure of government who ruled during 1980-2000.Karnata cashew devt corporation has sparyed the cheap and deadly pesticide using helicopters and its has spread to the nearest areas through air and water and there are around 10,000 victims from D.K and kasargod districts. Its just because of some resposnible media & some local activist, their voice is being heard.
