Udupi, Mar 15: “Nine teams have been formed to ensure that vehicles follow traffic rules. The teams will look over wearing of helmet by two-wheeler riders, seat belts in cars, no usage of mobiles while driving, rules while crossing roads, create awareness on using of public transport as far as possible, keep an eye on driving by minor children, make sure that alchometer, speed guns, interceptor, CCTV and cameras are in working condition and assign trained staff for their use. One of the nine teams will perform the duties each month,” said deputy commissioner Hephsiba Rani Korlapati.

She was speaking after presiding over district road safety committee meeting in DC’s office on Thursday, March 14.

“Bridges and watery areas should be inspected. Bridges should be repaired wherever necessary as per rules. Roads on national highways and rural areas should be inspected. Details of accidents should be recorded on the basis of gender and age. Make sure that school buses and three-wheelers do not transport more school children than permitted from the beginning of academic year.“There is a grant of Rs three lac for road safety committee. Barricades, sign boards and reflectors can be bought out of it. Inform if any arrangements are required for elections. Set an annual goal to reduce
accidents on national highway and state highways,” she said.

There's no use forming all these teams when you can't ensure the highway work is completed on time.work in Kundapur has come to a standstill & the DC can't do anything about it.its going to be hell this rainy season.only thing this will do is increase corruption.the cops will catch hold of some two wheelers & fleece them.first ensure work gets complete on time automatically there will be free flow of traffic

Being connected with the TRAFFIC WARDEN SQUAD in Mangalore, My comment is that Udupi region should think in terms of introducing THE TRAFFIC WARDEN SQUAD. Volunteers should be encouraged to join the Squad and render service to the community to the town of Udupi.

The common faults are two wheelers and auto rickshaws overtaking from the wrong side ie on the left side of the moving traffic. Parallel parking by bus drivers at bus halts. Over speeding by bus drivers to ensure intake of passengers. Parking by bus drivers at on-designated bus bus stops to pick up waiting passengers.

If given an opportunity I am prepared share my thoughts with the concerned authority . I have over 76 years driving experience in India and thirty-nine years driving experience in U.S.A. apart from the fact that I have driven in England and Europe.

Madam please take care of highway junctions. They are death traps.

    Santhekatte junction is highly dangerous.

We are seeing nothing has been done so far to tackle the risks in these junctions.
