Mumbai, Feb 25: Thiya Community members from Mumbai, Mangalore and Dubai are in full spirit to have the "Thiya Utsav – 2009" a genuine gathering to be held from Saturday February 28 to March 21.
The aim of this Utsav includes not only bringing the community people together but also strengthening the unity of Thiyas worldwide, thus keeping the culture alive. Thiya community is having rich culture blessed with goddess Bhagavati and Kulaguru Bhramashree Narayana Guru Swamy. Right from the inaugural programme till the end of the Utsav, Yakshagana “Bhagavati Mahatme” is going to play by Sashitlu Shree Bhagavathi Yakshagana Mandali, Sashittlu. The entire story of this play consists how goddess Bhagawati became the kuladevata of this community.
The program would highlight about 18 Thiya Temples situated between Kasaragod and Sashihitlu. This would also bring to light activities of about 1000 Tharawads of the community. It is known that many of the Tharawads are flourishing and many are still dormant. Many of these Tharawads are operating without a proper priest. On this occasion Thiyas have decided to gather more information of all the Tharawads and its activities.
Therefore, Thiya Community requests all its members to give details of their Tharawad which will help to contact them and get more details and approach appropriate Government body for remuneration for the priests and other developmental activities. This program would also give emphasis on these Tharawads and help the dormant one to rise up and work for the benefit of the community.
This program is being conducted in association with Thiya Samaj, Mumbai, Thiya Samaj, Dubai, Kudroli Sri Bhagavathi Kshetra, Sri Bhagavathi Co-operative Bank Ltd., Mangalore and with help from all Thiya Associations.
According to Kumar Bangera, honourary president of Thiya Samaj, Mumbai who is also the managing director of Mumbai news, the Ustav is going to inaugurate at 2 pm on February 28 at Vishveshwaraya Sabhagriha, Matunga followed by Yakshagana "Sri Bhagavati Mahatme".
Thereafter everyday the yakshagana will going to continue.
On March 13 "Thiya Utsav – 2009" will be held in Dubai with Puja, entertainment programme and felicitation to the prominent members of the community.
On March 14 "Thiya Utsav – 2009" will be held in Dubai with Puja, entertainment programme and felicitation to the prominent members of the community.
On March 21 "Thiya Utsav – 2009" will be concluded in Mumbai with grand “Sri Srinivasa Kalyana Mahotsava” for world peace and prosperity in the presence of K V Ramanachari, I A S, executive Officer, Sri Tirumala Tirupathi Devastanam. Kalyana Mahotsava will be conducted by S Venkatesh Murthy, Co-ordinator, South Zone, Dasa Sahitya Project, Bangalore and his team.
There will be Puja, entertainment programme and felicitation to the prominent members of the Thiya community, local prominent personalities and Kannadiga associations in Mumbai also.
According to Chandrashekar B, president of Thiya Samaj, Mumbai and Vishwanath UK, vice president, a committee has been formed under the charimanship of Kumar Bangera and Praveenshankar BM.
