Mangaluru, Mar 22: World Forest Day was celebrated at Lourdes Central School on Thursday, March 21.
The students of Class XII C conducted the morning assembly focusing on the theme ‘Forests and Education’. The assembly started with a beautiful prayer song, followed by an enlightening thought given by Ekta.
Nandini spoke on the importance of the day, briefing about its declaration as an annual event by the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation in 1971. She even spoke about the importance of forests in our life and how they help us and shared information about the forest fire at Bandipur National Park and how it could be prevented.
A conversation presented by Tanmai and Eisha made the students aware of the different ways to conserve forests such as recycling of paper, afforestation, protecting forests, using both sides of a paper and many more.
A beautiful poem on trees was recited by Nilisha D’Sa. The pledge to save forests was led by Glen Fernandes. Principal Fr Robert D’Souza sensitised the students about the usefulness and importance of trees and motivated to conserve forests. The assembly was compered by Austin and Rachel. Students also prepared charts for the bulletin board on the theme ‘Forest and Education’.
