Large amount of narcotics seized at sea in Myanmar


Yangon (Myanmar), Mar 27 (IANS): Myanmar authorities seized over 40 billion kyats ($26.67 million) worth of narcotic drugs at sea in Tanintharyi region, authorities said on Wednesday.

The seizure was made on Sunday by security personnel who were conducting patrol at sea near Kawthaung town, reported Xinhua news agency.

A total of 1,737 packs, which included 1 kg of ICE each, were confiscated from a vessel, 52 nautical miles northwest of Zar Det Gyi Island.

Seven men aboard were arrested. The vessel was believed to be travelling from Sat Thwar village in Gwa township, Rakhine state.
