Addressing the gathering, Fr Rudolph said, “Professionals of speech and hearing treatment are the saviours of thousands of people suffering from problems of speech and hearing. If anyone says that there is no scope for education related to speech and hearing, it is completely baseless and not authentic. If there is desire and willingness, there will be scope for everything. Knowledge, wisdom and practice increases the scope for professionals in this field. Meanwhile, we need to deal patients in an integrated way. When professionals treat patients as their loved ones, it will lead to a humanitarian bond. Similarly, doctors need to incorporate the current trend. ‘Focus-1’ will help upgrade knowledge and know new things in this subject.”

In his presidential speech, Fr Richard said, “’Focus -1’ is just the beginning. It should continue and go a long way. Today we should be grateful to God because he had given us all senses in fine condition. But in our surroundings or in the society, we can find many with disabilities. It is our responsibility to help them overcome difficulties. Speech and hearing is very important in human life. It helps us understand each other. It paves way to new relationships and gather knowledge.

“I can see here few professionals and some future professionals. ‘Focus-1’ will help professionals to upgrade their knowledge. Meanwhile, it will give new experience and confidence for the future professionals. Passion to learn new things brings you here. You should consider your profession a mission. Avoid unethical practices in your career. Healing is God's mission. Doctors and nurses are God’s instruments for healing. So we have to become an instrument filled with ethical values,” he said.

The three-day seminar ‘Focus-1’ on various topics will conclude on March 30. Experts from speech and hearing treatment will present their papers in the seminar. A large number of delegation from Delhi, Chennai, Kerala and from various parts of Karnataka are participating in the seminar.
